Empowering the Next Generation of Women in STEM

The U.S. faces a critical shortage of STEM professionals, with a projected need for 1 million new workers in the next decade. How do we bridge this gap? One answer is clear: Girl Scouts!

Join ULI Cleveland's Women's Leadership Initiative and CREW Akron for an exclusive tour of the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) STEM Center of Excellence at Camp Ledgewood. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to inspire young girls to explore STEM fields through hands-on programming in robotics, coding, chemistry, and more. All are welcome to attend.

Attendees will be able to hear from M. Jane Christyson, Chief Executive Officer and Julie Weagraff, MNO, CFRE, Chief Development Officer at Gril scouts of North East Ohio along with Janelle Hinkle, VP of Construction Operations and Project Executive/Manager,  Brittany Festa, Project Engineer with Regency Construction Services, Inc. and Melinda Scalfaro, Partner - Sustainability Leader, at SoL Harris/Day Architecture. Their insights will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the design and construction of this cutting-edge center and how it supports the next generation of female leaders in STEM.

This event is not only a chance to see how innovative spaces like this are shaping the future but also an excellent networking opportunity for professionals dedicated to advancing women in real estate and STEM industries. Following the tour, attendees will enjoy snacks and mocktails while connecting with fellow professionals.

Networking at Noon provides CREW members an opportunity to choose where to eat and network with fellow CRE professionals.

This quarterly event provides our members with the opportunity to try new lunch spots and network with an intimate setting (no more than 8 members per location).

Each attendee is responsible for paying for their individual meals.

Join us for the International Women's Day of Service at Access, Inc.! This in-person event will be held at ACCESS, Inc. where we will come together to celebrate and honor the achievements of women. Let's make a difference in our community by volunteering and giving back. This is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and support a worthy cause. Come be a part of this empowering day of service!

For those joining us on the day of service to volunteer, the following tasks that we will be performing include:

  • Sorting donations only requires 2 people

  • re-organizing larger supply/donation area

  • maintenance projects

  • kitchen work

  • monthly childcare area sanitation

In conjunction with our day of service, CREW Greater Akron encourages our membership to consider donating (new/never used) items to ACCESS that are most consistently needed:

  • diapers

  • bedding (twin bed size only) sheets

  • light-to-medium weight blankets given the time of the year

  • pillows & pillowcases

  • washcloths and towels

  • toiletries

  • soap

  • shampoo

  • lotion

  • scrubs - they have all new residents shower when they arrive and they wear scrubs while their clothes are being washed/dried

You may also choose to donate towards the purchase of the above supplies.
